Chapter 4

1 WHEN Ashbashul Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, he trembled, and all Israel was troubled.

2 And Saul's son had two men who were captains of raiding bands; the name of the one was Baana, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite of the children of Benjamin (for Beeroth also is reckoned to the Benjamites;

3 And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and are sojourners there until this day).

4 And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled; and, as she made haste to flee, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baana, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ashbashul as he was taking his noontide rest.

6 And behold, they came into the midst of the house; then those sons of wickedness took and smote him in his abdomen; and Rechab and Banna his brother escaped.

7 For when they came into the house, he was lying on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him and slew him and beheaded him, and took his head and fled by the way of the plain all night.

8 And they brought the head of Ashbashul to David at Hebron, and said to King David, Behold the head of Ashbashul the son of Saul your enemy, who sought your life; and the LORD has avenged our lord the king this day of Saul and of his offspring.

9 And David answered Rechab and Baana his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, As the LORD lives, who has saved my life out of every adversity,

10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought me good tidings, I seized him and slew him in Zinklag, instead of giving him a reward for his tidings;

11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a man in his own house upon his bed? Now I will avenge his blood at your hands and destroy you from the earth.

12 And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them on the hill in Hebron. But they took the head of Ashbashul and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.

3 Und die Berothiter waren geflohen1272 gen Gethaim und daselbst1481 Fremdlinge worden bis auf den heutigen Tag3117.

4 Auch hatte Jonathan3083, der Sohn1121 Sauls7586, einen Sohn1121, der war lahm5223 an5375 Füßen7272; und war fünf2568 Jahre8141 alt1121, da das Geschrei8052 von Saul7586 und Jonathan3083 aus Jesreel3157 kam935 und seine Amme539 ihn aufhub und floh5127; und indem sie eilete und floh5127, fiel5307 er und ward hinkend6452: Und er hieß8034 Mephiboseth4648.

5 So gingen3212 nun hin die Söhne1121 Rimons, des Berothiters, Rechob und Baena, und kamen935 zum Hause1004 Isboseths, da der Tag3117 am heißesten2527 war; und er lag7901 auf seinem Lager4904 im Mittag6672.

6 Und sie3947 kamen935 ins Haus1004, Weizen2406 zu holen; und stachen5221 ihn in8432 den Wanst und entrannen4422.

7 Denn da sie5493 ins Haus1004 kamen, lag7901 er5221 auf seinem Bette4296 in seiner Schlafkammer; und stachen ihn tot4191 und hieben ihm den Kopf7218 ab; und nahmen3947 seinen Kopf und gingen935 hin3212 des Weges1870 auf dem Blachfelde6160 die ganze Nacht3915.

8 Und1121 brachten das Haupt7218 Isboseths zu David1732 gen Hebron2275 und5414 sprachen559 zum Könige4428: Siehe, da ist935 das Haupt7218 Isboseths, Sauls7586 Sohns, deines Feindes341, der nach deiner See LE5315 stund; der HErr3068 hat1245 heute3117 meinen Herrn113, den König4428, gerochen an Saul7586 und an seinem Samen2233.

9 Da antwortete6030 ihnen7394 David1732: So wahr der HErr3068 lebet, der meine See LE5315 aus aller Trübsal6869 erlöset hat559,

10 ich griff den, der mir5046 verkündigte und sprach559: Saul7586 ist tot2026, und meinte, er wäre ein guter Bote1319; und erwürgete ihn5869 zu4191 Ziklag6860, dem ich sollte Botenlohn1309 geben5414.

11 Und diese gottlosen7563 Leute582 haben einen gerechten6662 Mann376 in seinem Hause1004 auf seinem Lager4904 erwürget2026. Ja, sollte ich das Blut1818 nicht fordern1245 von euren Händen3027 und euch von der Erde776 tun1197?
